WiTricity, the pioneer in wireless charging, shows off its patented technology for the first time in Korea. The Hyundai Motor Group unveiled the Genesis GV60 in a series of videos and announcements featuring wireless charging.
Hyundai has ever demonstrated wireless charging technology at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. Its Genesis GV60 is the brand’s third SUV and first BEV (factory-installed equipment in a fully electric vehicle) available in Korea. It is now at the Seoul Motor Show.
Helping encourage consumers to consider – and purchase – EVs is wireless charging. A new research study conducted by TideWatch Partners, an independent market research firm, finds that wireless charging significantly increases the likelihood of a consumer purchasing an EV in the U.S.
For those already intending to purchase an EV, their likelihood to purchase increased 40% – from 60% to 84% – when presented with wireless charging as an alternative to plugging in. The increase was even greater – nearly 70% – for people less certain about purchasing an EV.
In the future, in addition to simplicity and reliability, wireless charging also has the potential to provide Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) power and dynamic charging to power vehicles in motion. And it will be indispensable for autonomous vehicles, providing the ability to refuel without human intervention.
