Acquisition Aims to Boost Energy Efficiency and Operational Cost Savings
ABB has announced its acquisition of Sensorfact BV, a rapidly growing energy management company based in Utrecht, Netherlands. This strategic move will expand ABB’s digital energy management offering, strengthening its capabilities in helping industrial customers optimize their operations. The acquisition is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2025. Financial details were not disclosed.
Founded in 2017, Sensorfact provides a scalable hardware-enabled software as a service (SaaS) solution that utilizes artificial intelligence to help small and medium-sized enterprises digitalize their operations and reduce industrial waste, including energy consumption. With over 250 employees spread across Utrecht, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Berlin, Sensorfact serves more than 1,900 customers throughout Europe.
Massimiliano Cifalitti, President of ABB’s Smart Power division, emphasized the significance of this acquisition, stating, “ABB and Sensorfact are committed to improving energy efficiency, reducing maintenance costs, and boosting production for companies. This acquisition allows us to further our digital strategy by incorporating big data and AI technologies to enhance electrical distribution and energy management.”
Sensorfact’s SaaS platform includes plug-and-play sensors that measure energy consumption at the machine level and connect to a smart software platform. The platform uses algorithms to analyze data, identify energy-saving opportunities, and provide tailored advice for each customer.
Sensorfact CEO Pieter Broekema commented, “Our smart factory platform enables customers to collect utility and production data efficiently, reduce costs, and lower carbon emissions. Partnering with ABB allows us to rapidly bring our innovative solutions to global markets.”
